At Our Lady of the Valley elementary shcool, seniors helped children during physical education, helped teach them about science projects, cut out arts and crafts, and acted as aids for the younger grades.
OLV service was so amazing! I had a great time working with the little kids and decorating their room for St. Patrick's Day!! I miss them so much already!! They were all so cute and so much fun to play with during their lunch time!! I also really enjoyed the Talent Show and thought that the little boy and girl dancing were adorable!!
I was so happy that I picked OLV for my senior service. It was so much fun being a teacher's aid for the kidnergarten. I became really attached to the children and found it to be a rewarding experience when I was able to teach them how to read and do math. I agree with Kelsey that it was so much fun pretending to be a leprechaun and getting to destroy and decorate the classroom. The children's faces were priceless when they saw the room and the gold and treats that were left behind. I enjoyed the Talent Show and I hope to volunteer there again. -Heather Slattery
I had a lot of fun at Our Lady of the Valley. I had fun attempting to learn how to double-dutch with the kids at P.E. (and failing miserably at it). I liked helping with all the arts and crafts like the St. Patrick's Day project and especially the Solar System project because I really enjoy learning about astronomy so it was rewarding to teach some stuff to the kids that I'm interested in. I would definately recommend this service.
I was really happy with my choice of picking OLV as a senior service spot. It was a especially, really fun for me because I used to attend there and I got to visit with all the kids that i used to see on a daily basis, as well as get to update the teachers on my life. During the three days I was there I got to help the 7th graders practice for their Decathlon that would occur that Saturday. I also got to teach about the planets in 3rd grade. It was overall a great experience! I definately recommend doing this service!
Our first day arriving to OLV I was so excited to be working with little kids! The mass where that cute little girl got baptized was great! The kids did such a good job with their readings. Heather Kelsey and I got to be aids in the kindergarten class, which was one of the most adorable thing ever! Haha we taught them how to read and sound out the words as they did it, they were doing a better job then me! It said cat and I said puppy but the kids were bright enough to correct me! We also got to “terrorize” their room, and said Larry the leprechaun found his gold, it was interesting to hear the kids reactions, especially Nicholas when he asked his mom if Larry was going to come to his house. So funny! Well I am VERY glad I had the opportunity to work at OLV <3
I loved service at OLV. it was really great being able to teach little kids. It was challenging attempting to explain how to tell time to first graders but it was a rewarding challenge. My favorite part about my service at OLV was teaching the third graders about the Sun. They were just full of questions and it was really great seeing how excited they were to learn. I highly recommend doing service at OLV.
This was my second time being at OLV for my senior service, and it did disapoint me! I personally love doing my senior service at OLV because it is the elementary school that my mom and her seven brothers and sisters went to;I love connecting the place to all of the stories I grew up hearing from my mother, aunts, and uncles. Last time I was at OLV for service I helped out with the P.E. classes and I organized files, but this time I worked in the second grade and third grade classrooms, doing whatever the teachers needed to be done at the moment. I enjoyed helping the third graders learn about planets and I was in charge of teaching the kids about Uranus, which always got a couple of laughs from the mischevious boys. The highlight of the week for me was watching the kidnergartners get freaked out that "Larry the Leprachaun" messed up their classroom and also watching a third grade boy and girl dance in the talent show! I definately recommend this service!
This was my second time working at OLV and I loved it! It was great to see how excited the children got when we came to visit. Whether it was playing basketball with the 5th grade boys or playing princesses with the 1st grade girls, we were appreciated and loved all the same. The talent show that the school put on was so much fun to watch as well as messing up the Kindergarteners' room as if Larry Leprechaun had been there. I loved working with chldren and would definitely recommend it to anyone else who loves to connect with those they are working with! - Emily Brown
I had such a good time on Senior Service. We helped the second grade teacher make gift bags for thestudents who were receiving First Communion, helped the children with various art projects, and watched their talent show. I would definitely reccomend this service project to another senior. I had so much fun! ----Caitie M.
I volunteered at OLV the first time we had senior service and loved it so much that I decided to do it again in March. The people there are very nice and I loved working with the kids. It was fun trying to teach the first graders how to count money or the third graders about the two best planets ever (Jupiter and Uranus). It definitly made me respect what my grade school teachers had to go through trying to teach me. - Margaret Kratz
