Senior Service - ONE Generation
At this service, the students were given the opportunity to either play with younger children, infants - age 6, or assist the elderly through their daily activities, such as exercising, current events, dancing, triva, arts and crafts, meals, etc. It was a great way to feel connected with the community and feel important in the lives of others.

My service at ONE Generation was amazing!!! I had so much fun playing with the little kids all day. I was able to work with the 1-2 year olds and it was definitely worth my time! All of the kids were so cute and they were so much fun to play with! Some of us that volunteered at ONE Generation have decided that we are going to try to go back and visit the kids that we all fell in love with.
I went back to ONE to work with the elderly after volunteering there last semester. I really love working with the elderly; they all have such fascinating life stories. For example, this past service week, I was sitting around a table with a group of the elderly. There was one man who hadn't said anything. For some reason, I started talking about Shakespeare. Suddenly, his eyes lit up, and he smiled and started talking about how he was a Shakespeare scholar and how he had travelled around the world etc. He was so happy to have someone to talk to.
People our age sometimes dismiss older people as...well, "weird", I guess. Really, though, all they need is someone to talk to and someone to let them feel cared for.
I would recommend ONE to anyONE. haha.
ONE was really cool. I worked with the TEDDY BEARS which is basically the two year olds.. they were so cute it was almost difficult to leave! I EVEN sacrificed my newly manicured nails to make some play-doh with the TEDDIES. Sara and i learned how to "make our body safe", "shake a hand and say goodbye", and lastly and most importantly that we don't "SUFFOCATE OUR FRIENDS" riiiight sarbear?!?!?
:]
I really enjoyed the time I spent with the kids at One Generation. I was able to work with the two year olds, and they were lots of fun to play with. I got to know the kids and thats what made my experience there worth it. But I did not really feel appreciated or even welcomed for that matter by some of the teachers working there. Even though the teachers didn't make me feel that comfortable just being able to help out with the two-year olds made up for it. I would want to go back for service there just to see that kids that I got to know.

I enjoyed volunteering with the elderly at ONE Generation. It was fun to do arts and crafts, exercise, and dance with so many lovable people. There was this one old man in particular that always made me smile. His name is Robert, and he really knows how to treat a lady. During the three days we volunteered, I think that Robert called one of us georgeous, complimented another one of us on her legs, proposed to the same girl, and applauded for the grand singing of another. So if you have any self esteem issues, talk to Robert.
Working at ONE was really great. I got to spend time with the Infints. I worked with children from 6 weeks to 12 months. I also spent time with the 1-2 year olds and the 2-3 year olds. They were so cute!!! the teachers there were relly funny and kind.
Going into this service I really did not know what to expect. I was really impressed, though, at how much fun it really was! I spent one of the three days with the little kids and the other two with the "big kids." While making picture frames one day, a man asked me to marry him and i of course said sure! That was definetly one of my favorite memories of ONE and I don't think I would have hoped for anything different. Thanks to all the girls who were on this service with me. I loved spending time with you all! = ]

Working at ONE Generation was so great! I spent most of my time working with the 1-2 year olds; playing with them and helping them do different activities. I spent one of the days working with the elderly, which was a completely different, yet equally enjoyable experience. It was such a great opportunity to assist them and talk with them. I highly recommend this service opportunity and hope that others have enjoyed it as much as I did.
I loved working with the younger kids at ONE. They were so adorable and so much fun to play with. I think that ONE has a great idea in kixing the two generations and making them ONE. I hope that they continue to flourish because I was priveldged to see first hand how well they all interacted. The elderly came in for snack time and to sing songs and I could tell how muhc they loved spending time with my little 2 year olds. The kids also had a good time playing with the elderly and singing songs. I am also happy that I decided to try a new service this time around, it gave me a new perspective on children and elderly.
I went to One Generation twice and it was a worth while experience. Not only did we interact with elderly but also with children. The elderly are so grateful for your company which makes it even better.
This was the second time I went to ONE for service, and it was just as worthwhile the second time. It has something for everybody, whether you enjoy working with childen or the elderly. I really enjoyed working with the elderly. I got to do trivia, dance for St. Patrick's Day, and even practice a little bit of Spanish. I would definitely reccommend ONE for anybody who's looking for someplace to do service.
I had driven past ONE Generation multiple times in my life but never knew what went on behind the gates. I entered not knowing what to expect, but after about an hour I knew that all I had to do to help the elderly was talk to them. Some of them didn't talk, so we just sat and colored with them. Some of them talked abundantly, so we just listened. Either way I feel like just being around the people who have so few friends in their lives made a difference.
The older people were so sweet and overly generous with compliments and cautionary tales for us "youngsters," and the staff and other volunteers there were great to work with as well. I would recommend volunteering there to anyone who loves feeling helpful. It's a great program. By Friday I didn't want to leave!
I really enjoyed working at ONE Generation. I worked at the preschool with the "Lizards." They were an absolutely joyful group of kids. They all had such different personalities, and I loved getting to know the individual personality of as many kids as I could. The kids absolutely loved us and I'm pretty sure we all grew really attached to them. The "neighbor" time was really interesting. Some of the kids were totally not into the whole neighbor thing, and some of the elderly persons were not into it either, but the ones who were seemed to really enjoy being with each other. I met a really neat 97-year-old lady and my little friend Lily and I played kitchen with her; it was really sweet. It seemed like the teachers really didn't care that we were there; one lady really didn't trust us, but as the week went on the teachers in our "Lizard" classroom seemed to warm up to Camille and I. We also had a lot of fun on St. Patrick's Day. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. The kids are just spectacular and I had so much fun. I'm definitely going back on my own time to visit my favorite little children.
